The River Anma Project
The River Anma Project
N-Pocket is involved in projects such as the River Anma Development Plan.
- Over the past twenty years the river has frequently flooded.
- The local authorities have devised a strategy to remedy the problem.
- N-Pocket was asked to produce a consensus based on the views of local residents with regards to the proposed new river design, and so carried out interviews with them so as to gain a better insight into such a development.
- Based on the interviews, N-Pocket has frequently ran successful theater-forums involving plays and post-discussion to discuss the draft plans with local residents.
- N-Pocket has tried to encourage direct involvement of local residents in the planning of their environment, and has organized several research events to develop awareness within the community.
- N-Pocket put forward a proposal for the river design to the local government in April of 2002, and is now involved in designing the model area with elementary school students and local residents (a service learning school project), and encouraging the formation of a local group to take over river care and management.
Local residents exchange ideas.
Out comes of Theater-forums
Based on the interviews, N-Pocket has frequently ran successful theater-forums involving plays and post-discussion to discuss the draft plans with local residents.
- Through this interactive communication method, local residents and regional officers have come to understand their mutual responsibilities and roles as citizens and authorities.
- After many theater-forum experiences, people have changed from exhibiting negative attitudes towards officials and productive discussions have begun.
